Only on Christmas Eve alone there were 67 accidents which took the lives of 6 people, informed the Police Main Headquarters (KGP) on Tuesday. In total, 30 people died on Polish roads since Friday.
As Antoni Rzeczkowski from the KGP informed, on the 24th of December there were 67 road accidents which took the lives of 6 people and left 74 injured. On that same day, the police have stopped 119 drunk drivers. Altogether on Monday, the police carried out over 11,5 thousand controls.
The police road traffic operation "Holiday weekend - safe Christmas" based on an increased number of road controls started on Friday. Since then there were 366 road accidents and the police stopped nearly 700 drunk drivers.
Increased road patrols will be carried out until Wednesday the 26th of December. Around 5,000 traffic police officers are taking part in the operation. Their main focus is on speeding and drivers under influence.
Last year, between the 22nd and 26th of December, there were 373 road accidents in Poland, in which 42 died and 447 were injured. The police stopped 883 drunk drivers.
