Another day of hearings of the candidates for the Supreme Court. On Tuesday, 68 candidates were invited for interview, of which 35 placed their bid for the Disciplinary Chamber and 33 for the Chamber of Extraordinary Supervision and Public Affairs - informed the National Council of the Judiciary (KRS).
Tuesday is another day of hearings of the candidates for the Supreme Court judges. The National Council of the Judiciary plans to close the hearing session on Wednesday.
As the KRS informed, two teams of interviewers were hearing candidates for the Disciplinary Chamber and the Chamber of Extraordinary Supervision and Public Affairs of the Supreme Court. The first team interviewed 29 candidates, while the second - 27. Ten candidates didn't show up on Monday.
On Tuesday, the first team planned to hear 35 people. The second - 33 candidates for the Chamber of Extraordinary Supervision and Public Affairs. The latter one is expected to conclude the hearings on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, the Disciplinary Chamber team plans to hear 14 candidates. Another two team are expected to begin the interwiews. The first one will hear 29 candidates for the Civic Chamber, while the second - 5 candidates for the Criminal Chamber.
Last week, the National Council of the Judiciary (KRS) informed that it has received 215 applications for Supreme Court judges, however 13 candidates have withdrawn. There are 44 judge positions to fill.
According to the KRS's statement, there were 100 applications for the Disciplinary Chamber (16 vacancies), 74 for the Chamber of Extraordinary Supervision and Public Affairs (20 vacancies), 34 for the Civil Chamber (7 vacancies) and 7 for the Criminal Chamber (1 vacancy).
According to the Supreme Court law, anyone who meets the requirements to become a Supreme Court judge may apply within a month after the publication of the announcement.
The KRS also said that the number of candidacies may change, as some of the bids have been sent by mail and still some time was needed to make the final count. Furthermore, the candidates have the right to withdraw their bids at any stage.
The deadline for submitting the applications passed on 29 July.
