I would like to apologise to all those who feel offended by my comment for "Kurier Lubelski", a comment I didn't authorize; nevertheless, in the sense of responsibility, I decided step down as deputy minister of science and higher education - Andrzej Stanisławek wrote on Facebook.
The decision is a result of the minister's comment published by "Kurier Lubelski", in an article "Worse scenario came true. Students and parents in dismay" about the problem of primary school graduates who failed to get enrolled into high schools of their choice.
According to the paper, senator Stanisławek mentioned a number of times that he was not responsible for education in the government. "Minister Anna Zalewska reassured that there will be place to fit all the students. It was hard not to believe her. I can only deplore over the current situation," Stanisławek said. "Maybe there are places to fit all, but they are disproportionately distributed. Maybe the situation in each city wasn't fully analysed," Stanisławek added.
At the end of the article, Stanisławek is quoted once more: "I've come up with an idea that maybe we should draw on academic students' solutions. I'm not sure if it's still possible, but maybe those students who failed to get into any school could seek for one abroad," Stanisławek said in the interview for "Kurier Lubelski".
The governement spokesman Piotr Müller informed later on Tuesday via Twitter that Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki accepted Andrzej Stanisławek's resignation.
"Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has accepted the resignation of Andrzej Stanisławek. The government strenuously distances itself from the former deputy minister's comment. It's flagrantly inconsistent with the government's policy," Müller wrote.
