The Polish prime minister appointed Andrzej Papierz as the new undersecretary of state in the ministry of foreign affairs. He will replace Jan Dziedziczak who was released today, said the chief spokesperson of foreign affairs ministry, Artur Lompart.
To date, Papierz worked as the Polish consul-general in Istanbul. Between 2007-2010, he was the ambassador in Bulgaria, previous to that he had worked as the consul-general in Kazakhstan, the head of the Polish Institute in Sofia and the head of the HR and training office in the ministry. Between 1998-2001, he was the head of the Government Information Centre.
In the ‘90s, he also worked as an analyst of State Security Office and a TV journalist. Furthermore, he is a cofounder and a long-term member of the Republican League, led by the current secret service minister-coordinator, Mariusz Kamiński.
During the ‘80s, he was associated with the democratic opposition. Alike the current foreign minister, Jacek Czaputowicz, he was active in the underground structures of the Independent Students Association, he also worked together with the Freedom and Peace movement.
As Mr Lompart said, the new deputy minister takes an office which until December was held by Joanna Wronecka, who became the Head of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Poland to the United Nations in New York.
“At the same time, minister Czaputowicz decided to terminate the secretary of state function held by Jan Dziedziczak and asked prime minister Morawiecki for his approval,” said Mr Lompart, adding that the head of cabinet accepted the request.
In the ministry, Mr Papierz will take over from Jan Dziedziczak who has been responsible for the issues regarding the Polish Diaspora, communication with the parliament and public diplomacy. As the Polish Press Agency found out, with regard to the appointment of the new undersecretary, in the coming days, a new allocation of responsibilities between deputy ministers will follow.
It means that in the foreign ministry there will only be one secretary of state – Minister for European Affairs, Konrad Szymański, and four undersecretaries. Mr Papierz will work alongside Bartosz Cichocki (responsible for Eastern and consular affairs, as well as for security policy), Marek Magierowski (responsible for American, Asian, African, Middle-Eastern affairs, as well as for economical diplomacy) and Piotr Wawrzyk (responsible for legal issues and treaties).
