We need diversification of gas suppliers; energy security is crucial not only for Poland, but also for the whole territory between the Baltic, Adriatic and Black Seas - President Andrzej Duda said on Friday at the Sabine Pass LNG terminal owned by Cheniere.
During his visit to Sabine Pass, President Duda met with US Secretary of Energy Rick Perry. At a joint press conference, Duda pointed to the fact that Cheniere and PGNiG signed a contract for LNG supplies for Poland. "Soon enough, the first tankers will sail out to fill up the terminal in Świnoujście and to power up our part of European gas network," Duda said.
"American gas is sailing to Poland, but I hope that it will sail to the whole Central Europe. It's a matter of not only our security, Poland's security, but also the security of the Central Europe, the region where the so-called Three-Seas countries meet up," he added. Duda underscored that energy security is crucial not only for Poland, but also for the whole territory between the Baltic, Adriatic and Black Seas. "It's a region that, not so long ago, was fully dependent on Russian Gazprom. Drawing on Ukraine's experience, when the Russians suddenly cut off supplies of this crucial resource, we've all been taught a tragic lesson," said the Polish president.
He also stressed that "we need diversification of supplies, diversification of sources". "I'm glad that today we able to buy this gas for Poland and for Central Europe; to buy it from here, from one of the world's superpowers, one of the biggest economies and absolute hegemon in the global gas market," Duda said.

Rick Perry underscored that the relations between Poland and USA are a crucial issue. He listed relations in the field of energy security, common future, as well as prosperity and freedom.
He added that the owner of the Sabine Pass, Cheniere, so far has delivered six transports of LNG to Poland, but this number will grow up 20 per year after 2023.
US Secretary of Energy also said that Polish-American relations extend well beyond gas supplies. He added that both countries cooperate also in the fields of nuclear energy, cybersecurity and infrastructure.
