"What we are doing together today will have very important consequences for the future generations. Never before have we had such a unique possibility to build Polish-American brotherhood," U.S. Ambassador to Poland Mark Brzezinski said on Tuesday at a press conference in the Port of Gdynia. American destroyer USS Gravely has docked in this northern Polish city.
U.S. Ambassador to Poland Mark Brzezinski held a press conference on Tuesday in the Port of Gdynia, where an U.S. Navy Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Gravely has dropped anchor.
"What we are doing together today will have very important consequences for the future generations. Never before have we had such an exceptional possibility to build Polish-American brotherhood. As General Tadeusz Kościuszko once said: for our freedom and yours," ambassador Mark Brzezinski said in Polish and then switched to English.
He underscored that USS Gravely was a third American destroyer which docked in Poland in the past three months. "That is significant because we have not had this kind of naval presence in this region for some time," he added.
"That unity of purpose and that shared definition of the threat is our strength"
"This warship, like all of our warships provides reassurance on many levels. First, it provides reassurance to our Polish friends and neighbours. We all know that Poland is a frontline state the NATO in the Ukraine crisis," ambassador said.
"During the many collaborative military engagements with our Polish counterparts, I've heard from members of the Polish community that the presence of US troops, of US equipment, of US ships makes people feel more secure. It shows the people of Poland that we are here, that the United States supports you," Brzezinski assured.
He also mentioned that more than 10,000 American troops were being stationed in Poland.
"US Navy sailors from this destroyer will have the opportunity to interact with the people of Gdynia... engagements such as these strengthen our bonds. It brings our people together, this projects unity in a time when cooperation with Poland, with our allies, with our partners has become our greates strength in the face of Russian aggression," U.S. ambassador said. "That unity of purpose and that shared definition of the threat is our strength," he added.
"Putin is betting that Western unity will crack. We continue to prove through our actions that that's not the case, in fact it's quite the contrary. We will work towards preserving security and stability throughout the region. We are united, we stand together on land and sea," Mark Brzezinski stressed.
