City strolling peacock escorted back to park on by police on blue lights

After two days of strolling across downtown Warsaw, a city-roaming peacock was finally captured by firemen at key tourist thoroughfare of Nowy Świat. Shortly after, the bird was escorted back to Royal Łazienki Park in a marked police car on blue lights. "The peacock barely fitted in the car due to his huge train. When the officers released him in the park, a longing peahen immediately greeted him" - said inner city police spokesman.

ECHR: Poland violated right to lawful court with "stand-in" judge

Poland has violated the right to a lawful tribunal and a fair trial - the European Court of Human Rights ruled on Friday in Strasbourg. The ruling pertained to a case of a Polish turf roll producer who had sued the state for damages caused by game. The ECHR ruling was justified with the fact that judge Mariusz Muszyński had replaced a lawfully appointed Constitutional Tribunal judge in the panel which handed down the ruling, unfavourable to the businessman. Constitutional Court head Julia Przyłębska said the verdict would not have any impact on Poland's legal system.

Amazing historic finding at Warsaw's legendary milk bar

During renovation of service premises, which for nearly 70 years had been used by Warsaw's legendary milk bar "Złota Kurka", a set of historic ceramic panels has been discovered. The panels are covered with paintings showing animals and plants. "Most likely more such items will be found inside" - said Warsaw's historic preservation officer.

Envelope with money returns to its rightful owner

A 65-year-old man found an envelope containing money near a bike lane in Słupsk. He took it to a local police station. More than a week later, the owner of the envelope has been found. More precisely, the owner's mother came to the station and proved the envelope belonged to her 13-year-old son Mateusz.

Health ministry: 18,000 vaccination appointment dates made available

"I'm happy to inform that we've freed nearly 18,000 vaccination appointment dates" - said the Health Ministry spokesman Wojciech Andrusiewicz. He was relating to reports that people who had got vaccinated during May weekend without registration were said to have been blocking appointments booked earlier on. Police officer shot dead during a drunk driving traffic stop

The police in Racibórz received a report about a 40-year-old man in dark blue clothes who had been spotted entering his car intoxicated at a gas station. Later on the man was said to have been blocking traffic in a small neighbourhood street. When the police patrol arrived at the scene, the suspect fired his gun. The officer who approached the car was shot dead, while his partner shot the the suspect in the leg.

U.S. State Secretary congratulates Poland on 3rd May Constitution Day

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken congratulated Poland on celebrating the 230th anniversary of the 3rd May Constitution of 1791. "The friendship shared by the United States and Poland traces its origins to the late 18th century when our countries adopted our respective constitutions" - he said in a statement.

Three editors-in-chief from Polska Press fired after takeover by Orlen

Editors-in-chief of three daily newspapers owned by Polska Press Group have been fired - group's board member Dorota Kania informed on Twitter. The three editors were Marek Twaróg from "Dziennik Zachodni", Jerzy Sułkowski from "Gazeta Krakowska", and Stanisław Sowa from "Nowiny". Their replacements have been already chosen, Kania added.

PM's aide: disability care centres with vaccination priority

COVID-19 vaccinations in care centres for people with disabilities will begin on May 10 - the chief of the PM's office Michał Dworczyk said on Friday. He added that vaccine orders for these institutions would be treated with priority by the Government Strategic Reserves Agency.

National Recovery Plan ready to be sent to EU Commission

Deputy Minister of Development Funds and Regional Policy Waldemar Buda said on Friday the government would adopt the National Recovery Plan later that day, and then send the document over to the EU Commission. He added everything seemed to suggest there was a necessary political consensus over the project.
