On a dark November evening in a small town in north-east Poland, men lower the wooden coffin of a young migrant into a freshly dug grave to the sound of an imam reciting a funeral prayer.

The Czech Republic has received a new proposal from Poland on the settlement of a dispute over the Turow lignite mine near their border but the new draft is unacceptable, the Czech Environment Ministry said on Tuesday.

NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said on Tuesday that the alliance was deeply concerned about Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko's strategy of putting migrant lives at risk, offering Poland support. Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Tuesday accused Poland of "outrageous" behaviour, and the EU leadership of following "double standards".

Kamil Durczok died on Tuesday morning, the University Clinical Center in Katowice informed. The journalist, who had been admitted to the hospital on Monday, passed away at the age of 53.

Migrants trying to force their way into Poland attacked Polish soldiers with rocks and tried to destroy the fence at the border crossing in Kuźnica, the Ministry of National Defence said on Tuesday. "Our services used tear gas to quash the migrants' aggression," the ministry added. The footage from the border also shows Polish services using water cannons.

The EU's top court ruled on Tuesday that Polish rules allowing the justice minister to assign judges to higher criminal courts or to remove them without stating reasons violated EU law. Poland's prosecutor general has asked the country's Constitutional Tribunal to rule whether regulations cited by the Court of Justice of the European Union for fines imposed on Poland are constitutional, the prosecutor's office told state news agency PAP on Monday.

Consumer prices in October 2021, compared with the corresponding month of the previous year, increased by 6.8% (with an increase of prices of goods and services by 6,8% each). As related to the previous month consumer prices increased by 1.1% (of which goods by 1.3% and services by 0.3%), Statistics Poland said in its flash estimate released on Monday. This is a level unseen since May 2001, when inflation in Poland spiked up to 6.9%.

Hundreds of migrants gathered at the border crossing in Kuźnica. "An attempt to force the border is being prepared. Everything happens under the supervision of Belarusian services," Polish Border Guard said on Twitter. Polish services have published a series of videos from the border.

The European Union is far from being at the end of its "sanctions spiral" against Belarus, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said on Monday. Europe accuses Belarus of mounting "a hybrid attack" by flying in migrants and pushing them to cross illegally into Poland. Belarus has repeatedly denied the accusation. Maas also said that Poland was not responsible for the migrant crisis at the border with Belarus, and that it deserved EU's solidarity in that situation. "Today we are going to approve a new package of sanctions," said the EU's top diplomat, Josep Borrell.

A Polish NGO rescued two Syrian migrants late on Sunday, after the brothers crossed the border from Belarus and made it some 40 kilometres into Polish territory.

The United States is "very concerned" about the situation at the Poland-Belarus border, US Vice-President Kamala Harris said on Friday. Earlier that day, Russia dismissed as inflammatory a media report suggesting Moscow might be weighing an attack on Ukraine and accused the United States of making a series of aggressive moves in the Black Sea.

Tarnów has been mentioned by CNN on its list the most beautiful European towns. The American broadcaster especially acknowledged Tarnów's Old Town, which it descibed as "a glorious mix of architectural styles". The list also includes small towns of Spain, Portugal, France, and other countries.

A police patrol in Dąbrowa Tarnowska (Lesser Poland Voivodeship) received an unusual call: a deer got stuck in a bike lane barrier. The officers set the distressed animal free.

Russia traded barbs with Western members of the U.N. Security Council on Thursday over a crisis on the border between Belarus and Poland, with Russia's deputy U.N. envoy suggesting his European colleagues have "masochist inclinations." The EU Commission said on Friday that Turkey's flights to Minsk would be reduced to zero for some time after a deal with Turkish Airlines to stop the flow of Middle Eastern migrants to Belarus.

Poland has purchased molnupiravir, a COVID medicine soon to be approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA), Health Ministry spokesman Wojciech Andrusiewicz told TVN24 on Friday. He added the first tranche of the drug would most likely arrive in Poland in mid-December. "Of course we are also taking part in EU tenders for other medicines," he reassured.

The Ministry of National Defence on Thursday published another video showing night events at the Polish-Belarusian border. "Migrants are forced to march along the fence separating the border," the ministry said in a tweet, accusing Minsk of "instrumental treatment of migrants".

Thousands of Polish nationalists and far-right sympathisers marched through Warsaw on Thursday afternoon (November 11) in an annual Independence Day gathering after Poland's nationalist rulers helped challenge a court ban on the event.

The European Parliament adopted a resolution on Thursday, condemning Poland's near-total ban on abortion. "A year after the Polish Constitutional Tribunal’s ruling, MEPs are calling on the government to lift the ban on abortion that puts women’s lives at risk," the institution said in a press release.

Poland's President Andrzej Duda gave a speech during official commemorations of the National Independence Day. "We have always been and will be a part of Europe based on Christian values, which are the foundations of our tradition and culture," he said. The president also referred to the situation at the border with Belarus: "a time has come when we have to protect the homeland". He also blamed the Belarusian regime for launching hybrid warfare against Poland and the European Union.

The Ministry of National Defence informed that yesterday a group of migrant tried to force their way through the border in the area near Białowieża. The ministry added that the migrants had tried to destroy the fence and cast various objects at the soldiers, who fired warning shots. The Polish Border Guard said it had recorded 468 illegal attempts of border crossing on Wednesday alone.

The Ministry of Health informed on Thursday about 19,074 newly confirmed cases of coronavirus infection, and the death of 274 COVID patients. This has been the highest number of infections since April 15.

Syrian migrant Youssef Atallah feared he would die in the forest on the Polish border after being left without food or water in freezing cold, unable to breathe through his nose after it was broken by what he said was an assault by a Belarusian soldier.

European Commission head Ursula von der Leyen said on Wednesday that the European Union would widen its sanctions against Belarus, targeting both people and entities. She added the situation on the border between Belarus and Poland was not a migrant crisis, but an attempt by the "authoritarian regime" of Minsk to destabilize its neighbours.

Workers were doing their best on Wednesday to remove paving stones, bins and city bikes from the route of the nationalists' march marking Poland's Indpendence Day, planned for Thursday. Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski said all dangerous things would be removed on Wednesday, in line with police recommendations.

EU ambassadors agreed on Wednesday that Belarus' decision to encourage Middle Eastern migrants to enter Poland can legally be considered a "hybrid attack" that serves as a basis for a new round of sanctions on Minsk, diplomats said. The NATO reassured on Wednesday it stood by Poland in Belarus migrant crisis.

Poland's Ministry of Health on Wednesday reported the highest number of hospitalised COVID patients since May. Furthermore, 18,550 new infections and 269 deaths were recorded. Deputy Health Minister Waldemar Kraska said the government wasn't planning any new restrictions at that time.

Russia blamed the European Union on Wednesday for the migrant crisis on the border between Belarus and Poland, accusing it of trying to "strangle" Belarus with plans to close part of the frontier and urging it to talk directly with Minsk. German Chancellor Angela Merkel told Russian President Vladimir Putin by phone that Belarus's "instrumentalisation of migrants" was inhumane and unacceptable and asked him to press Belarus's government on the matter, her spokesperson said on Wednesday.

Migrants trapped in Belarus made multiple attempts to force their way into Poland overnight, Warsaw said on Wednesday, announcing that it had reinforced the border as the European Union prepares to impose sanctions on Belarus over the crisis.

"For the first time in 30 years, we see the safety and integrity of our borders being so brutally attacked and tested," Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said at a special session of the Sejm devoted to the migrant crisis at the Polish-Belarusian border. He added the country was dealing with a "staged spectacle". The head of the government also stressed that migrants were being used "as human shields to destablise the situation in Poland, Lithuania and the whole EU".
