"I think it is a great opportunity for the Trump administration, for the American Government to make clear its support for NATO in general, for Poland in particular," said Daniel Fried, former US Ambassador to Poland, talking to a correspondent or TVN’s "Fakty" news service.
The former US Ambassador to Poland pointed out two important aspects of the "complicated" visit: "One, is the purely strategic level, where we are dealing with an aggressive authoritarian Russia which is pushing against the West, its institutions and the democratic standards," said Fried. "But there is second level, which is much more complicated, which is the American political level. That is relations with Russia and American support for NATO and for a strong West, for the free world even, has become suddenly a question" he added.
"I think it is a great opportunity for the Trump administration, for the American Government to make clear its support for NATO in general, for Poland in particular, and for the values of the united West, that Poland's entry in to the EU and to NATO represents," the former Ambassador said and went on to add that the "backdrop is complicated."
