Jerzy Owsiak has opened the 28th edition of Pol'and'Rock Festival (once known as Woodstock Festival Poland). The official inauguration was held on Thursday at 3 p.m. This year's edition of the festival - which is a form of gratitude for generosity dispayed in the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity Grand Finale - is held for the first time in Czaplinek, West Pomeranian Voivodeship. "This is the most beautiful festival in the world. There's never been anything like this before. That's what Poland should be like!" - the "conductor" of the Orchestra shouted from the stage. The event will end at night between Saturday and Sunday.
This year's edition of Pol'and'Rock Festival was launched on Thursday (August 4). The event was opened by Jurek Owsiak - a respected social activist, founder of the biggest Polish charity - the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity Foundation - and the mastermind behind Festival. He paid a tribute to the people of Ukraine fighting off the Russian aggression. "Ukraine, we stand with You!" - Owsiak shouted.
Then - as per usual - the festival participants took an oath holding one hand over their hearts and sunflowers in the other.
"All aboard!". Ruszył Pol'and'Rock
Festival legend and the last Żary railway station guard, Roman Polański (not the famous movie director - edit.), entered the stage. Jurek Owsiak once wrote: "Mr Roman Polański has been whistling out the beginning of our festival since forever... and although already retired, wearing a railway hat and holding the whistle in his lips, he casts out the magic spell".
This time it was no different. The legendary guard shouted "All aboard!", blew his whistle and the festival was opened.
Pol'and'Rock Festival is the biggest non-commercial event in Europe. There are no entry tickets for festivalgoers and anyone willing to participate is free to join. The event attracts audiences of almost half a million people who flock to the site of the Most Beautiful Festival in the World.
The festival usually hosts a crowd of up to 750 000 people - either camping on-site, passing by to see a show or visiting the Academy of the Finest of Arts.
The festival is a free event, open to all and a place where everyone can experience music and freedom unlike any other.
"This year we invite you to a festival, which will become a manifestation held to promote the ideas of tolerance and peace!" we read at the festival's official website.
