Poland's Health Minister Adam Niedzielski announced on Thursday (December 8) that vaccinations against COVID-19 for children aged from 6 months and 4 years would be launched on December 12.
Minister Niedzielski spoke at a press conference on Thursday about the epidemic situation in Poland. "In recent weeks we've been witnessing a shift in tendency. So far we've been seeing a systematic drop in the number of infections and hospitalisations. In the last week or so, the tendency has shifted and we're recording an increase. As of now, these week-on-week increases, in terms of the number of infections, reach around 20%. But the number of infections remains low. Around 450-500 infections daily," he said.
"We are carrying out analytic works aimed at forecasting future waves (of the pandemic - edit.). The apogee of the next wave is prognosed for late-January," he added.
Vaccinations for youngest children
Niedzielski also informed about further COVID-19 vaccination options. "On December 5, Poland received vaccines for the group age between 6 months and 4 years. We've received nearly half a million doses. It's a three-dose vaccine scheme, so it should be enough to vaccinate 168,000 people," he said.
"The schedule is that the second dose is administered three weeks after the first, and the third, additional dose, is administered 8 weeks after the second dose," the minister explained.
"Online referrals for children aged from 6 months to 4 years will be issued at night between December 11 and 12. The population of this group is nearly 2 million children. Registration for vaccinations will be opened on December 12," he informed.
Niedzielski also explained that it would be possible to register through Moje IKP portal, by calling 989 hotline open between 7-20, as well as directly at vaccination stations.
