"Fourth wave of COVID-19 epidemic is slowly gaining momentum" - Health Ministry spokesperson Wojciech Andrusiewicz told TVN24 on Friday. He also said that, according to ministry estimations, the wave was expected to peak between September and October. "If we don't keep vaccinating, we must brace for a peak of up to 15,000 infections daily," he cautioned.
Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health Wojciech Andrusiewicz told TVN24 on Friday that "the fourth wave of COVID-19 epidemic is slowly gaining momentum". "We observe 20-percent spikes (in infections), but one day this week we had a 50-percent increase. This is a proof that the epidemic can accelerate," he said.
When to expect a peak of COVID-19 pandemic?
The spokesman added that the COVID-19 epidemic in Poland "might accelerate, if we don't get vaccinated". He stressed that coronavirus transmission "among unvaccinated people is very rapid".
"We estimate, following all forecasts, that a peak of the fourth wave could be expected in September, between September and October. Obviously, in the coming weeks we don't expect the pandemic to slow down, but rather to speed up even more," he warned.
Andrusiewicz on expected daily infection rate in the fourth wave
"If we, unfortunately, act irresponsibly and don't get vaccinated, we must brace for a peak of up to 15,000 infections daily," Andrusiewicz said. "If we keep on getting vaccinated, we may think optimistically about 1,000 - 2,000 infections daily," he added.
