A Polish woman is facing up to 3 years in prison for assaulting a Filipino woman in Wrocław. The 48-year-old used offensive language and threated the foreigner. The victim recorded the incident and published the video on social media. As the video went viral - thanks to the tuwroclaw.com portal - the aggressor has been detained and charged. The prosecutor's office has requested the woman be arrested for two months.
The incident took place on June 30 on Powstańców Śląskich Street in Wrocław. The Filipino woman - a teacher and blogger working and living in Wrocław - was assaulted verbally, and then also physically, by an unknown Polish woman.
The video shows the aggressor used offensive language, pushed, and threatened the woman with death.
"You're in my f*****g district, do you realize that? I f*****g hate you people! Because you are ruthless and evil. You f*****g stay right here until I get home, or In will kill you!" - the Polish woman shouted among other things. The Filipino woman was asking in English what she had done to deserve it.
Grace says she loves Poland
The tuwroclaw.com portal said the Filipino woman's name is Grace. She has been living in Poland for two years. Grace works in a foreign school school in Wrocław - she is teaching English.
Grace told tuwroclaw.com that she loved Poland and was happy to live in such a beautiful country. She added it was the first timesuch incident had happened to her.
The police looked into the case and, after questioning the Filipino teacher, they located the 48-year-old woman seen in the video.
Police: most likely a nationality-motivated attack
The police say this was not just a verbal assault, but also a physical one. "When passing next to the victim, the detained 48-year-old woman attacked her. Most likely based on her (the attacked woman - edit.) nationality," said Rafał Jarząb of Wrocław Police.
He added the attacker was charged with assault casued by xenophobia, racism, or religious prejudice. The woman is facing up to 3 years in prison. The prosecutor's office has requested the woman be arrested for two months.
Psychological and legal support from the city
"Immediately after the whole incident, the victim was contacted - on behalf of the city - by Wrocław Center for Social Development, which for years has been involved in promoting cross-cultural communication and counteracting violence motivated by nationality," Wrocław City Hall said on social media. It also assured the Filipino citizen "has received full legal and psychological support, which she has been using". The city also stressed: "Wrocław and its authorities will not tolerate any forms of racism and discrimination based on nationality".
