Supreme Court says it has authority to assess judiciary council's independence

The Supreme Court has the authority to assess the independence of the National Council of the Judiciary (KRS) when examining appeals against resolutions passed by this Council regarding putting forward candidates for justices to the President - according to the resolution adopted on Wednesday by the Supreme Court's Extraordinary Control Chamber. Such assessment only applies to particular, individual resolutions.

Tragic fire in Chojnice hospice. Four people dead, 24 injured

The Regional Prosecutor's Office in Chojnice (Pomeranian Voivodeship) is investigating the tragic fire which broke out in the local hospice in early hours on Monday (January 6th). Four people, aged between 64 and 72, died as a result of the fire, 24 were injured.

President Duda asks FM for updates after Iranian commander assassination

Due to recent developments in Iraq, Polish President Andrzej Duda has asked the Minister of Foreign Affairs for more detailed information on the matter. The President has been also seeking advice from experts on the Middle East - the National Security Bureau (BBN) informed on Friday. The Bureau stressed that the President hopes for de-escalation of the conflict.

Polish Youth Climate Strike activists wrote a letter to PM Morawiecki

Civic Platform chairman Schetyna won't be running for re-election

Fire service: 8 dead, 35 injured in fires during Christmas period

Firefighters intervened over 2.300 times over the Christamas period (24th, 25th and 26th of December) - the spokesman for the Polish State Fire Service (PSP) Senior Brigadier Paweł Frątczak informed on Friday. He added that in the said period there were 612 fires in which 8 people died and 35 got injured. One person died due to carbon monoxide poisoning.
