Civic Platform chairman Borys Budka said on Wednesday he had a very fruitful conversation with former prime minister Donald Tusk.
Borys Budka was asked by reporters in the Sejm on Wednesday if he considered an option to resign as Civic Platform leader. "Many scenarios are being considered. I'd like to stress once again that personally I'm interested in one option only, that is making Civic Platform stronger" - said the PO chairman.
He added that he had a very fruitful conversation with Tusk. "Everything seems to suggest that I should be able to convince the former party chairman to his strong involvement in Polish political scene, and I mean a full-time engagement" - Budka said.
"We will propose a formula together, I think very soon" - he said. "But please, if you will, let us make it a special event and a special formula that might come as a surprise to many" - Budka said and reassured "it will certainly happen before summer holidays".
Asked if he would be ready to step down as party leader, Budka replied: "We discuss strengthening Civic Platform, rather than departures". "No one is talking about leaving. I can tell you one more time that positive scenarios, written together with Rafał Trzaskowski and Donald Tusk, are ahead. However, you need to wait a bit more, as it has to be a serious and strong entrance in an interesting and new structure which should become reality" - Borys Budka promised.
Donald Tusk did not rule out his potential return to Polish politics in an interview for TVN24 on June 4.
Asked if he planned to take over the leadership in Civic Platform, Tusk said he was ready to do anything for the party not to become history. In his view, PO was absolutely indispensable "as a responsible centrist party", "if we think about winning the next parliamentary election".
"I feel that we need to invest everything we have in order for freedom, democracy or decency in public life not to be just a dream, but to become reality again. Mentally, emotionally and life-wise I'm ready to make any decision to help reverse this course of events, detrimental to Poland" - said the former prime minister.
