"If Donald Tusk wants to return to Polish politics, it means he knows how to do it" - former leader of Civic Platform Grzegorz Schetyna said on Tuesday. In his opinion, former prime minister's presence and involvement are needed. "We need a new opening in cooperation between democratic opposition circles" - Schetyna said. "We need to leave the recent months behind" - he added.
Grzegorz Schetyna was asked by reporters in the Sejm about his experience in working with Donald Tusk, and if he would like those times to return. "I have very good memories from my work alongside Donald Tusk, I'm aware, I read and listen, just how much is being said about his potential return to local politics" - he said.
Schetyna stressed that Tusk's presence and involvement "are needed". "Today we need a new opening (...) a new opening in cooperation between democratic opposition circles, new starting point where shall stand together" - said former Civic Platform chairman.
"You can't draw up a good, well-cooperating electoral list without agreement. We need to leave the recent months behind. And a certain impulse will be important. I think that Donald Tusk's declarations regarding his return to politics could be such an impulse" - said former interior minister in Donald Tusk's cabinet.
Asked if the current chairman Borys Budka proved himself in this function, Schetyna replied that "each leader should be assessed after the end of their term". "Borys Budka surely has a few months, maybe a dozen or so, to display his leadership powers and prepare the party for elections. I think this idea of Donald Tusk's return will also strengthen Borys Budka position" - he added.
Asked what he would advise Tusk in terms of his possible return to politics, Schetyna said "it's not his role to give advice". "He knows best, he used to come up with political scenarios so he's used to it. If he wants to return, it means he knows how to do it" - Schetyna said.
