Ivanka Trump, Donald Trump’s daughter, placed flowers at Warsaw’s Monument to the Ghetto Heroes and visited the Museum of the History of Polish Jews (POLIN). The Jewish community regret that the US President failed to make his appearance at the site.
Ivanka Trump’s visit commenced after 10 a.m. Having placed flowers at the Monument to the Ghetto Heroes, the daughter of the United States President visited the Museum of the History of Polish Jews (POLIN).
“It was a deeply moving experience to visit the Monument to the Ghetto Heroes and the POLIN Museum of the History of the Polish Jews,” Ms. Trump said. “It was a privilege to pay my respects and remember, with gratitude, those who tenaciously fought against all odds. The monument, erected on the rubble of the Warsaw Ghetto, symbolizes the fight for freedom. I am profoundly grateful for those who fought and all those who continue to fight today.”
However, the Polish Jews community expressed their regret at Donald Trump failing to appear at the site. It was reminded in a letter to media, signed inter alia by Michael Schudrich, the Chief Rabbi of Poland, that in the past the monument had been visited by all United States presidents and vice-presidents during their trips to Warsaw.
We deeply regret that President Donald Trump, who is going to make a public speech a mere mile away from this Monument, saw fit to break with this honorable tradition, the letter reads.
Daughter and advisor
Ivanka Trump is not only Donald Trump’s daughter but also one of his advisors. She flew to Warsaw on Wednesday night, together with the presidential couple. She is accompanied by her husband, Jared Kushner – also the President’s advisor – who has Polish roots.
The Monument to the Ghetto Heroes is situated in the district of Muranow, close to the place where Jewish fighters waged their first fights against Nazis during the Warsaw Ghetto uprising in April 1943.
The structure was designed by Leon Suzin. The monument was unveiled already on April 16, 1946.
