Warsaw police have detained an extremely dangerous driver who was driving against the traffic, ignoring red lights, and chasing people off pavements. During his crazy run, he also smashed into a dozen of other vehicles. One woman was taken to hospital, while another received medical help on the spot.
Shortly after 11 p.m., the police received a call from people who had witnessed a Peugeot damaging a few cars in Żoliborz district, and driving off in the direction of Śródmieście. "People who saw the incident followed the car and called the police, updating officers about the Peugeot driver's location," said Śródmieście Police spokesman Robert Szumiata.
The police began the chase already in the city centre. "The driver turned out to be a 26-year-old citizen of Georgia. He posed serious threat to other road users - both pedestrians and drivers," Szumiata said. "He was going against the traffic, ignoring red lights, and driving down pavements - forcing pedestrians to run away," he added.
The chase ended in Ochota district, in Aleje Jerozolimskie next to crossing with "Grzymały" Sokołowskiego. "That's where the 26-year-old driver smashed into the cars that were waiting on red lights. He damaged eight cars," the spokesman said.
One woman was taken to a hosputal with minor injuries, while another one received medical assisstance in an ambulance.
"The driver has been incapacitated and detained. He refused to be tested for substance use on the spot. We took a blood sample from him. We will check if he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs," Robert Szumiata said.
