In his speech at Warsaw Security Forum, U.S. Ambassador to Poland Mark Brzezinski reassured that the United States was committed to ensuring Poland's military safety, as well as security in broader terms, including energy and democracy. President & Managing Director Warner Bros. Discovery Poland Kasia Kieli also took part in Wednesday's panel.
U.S. Ambassador to Poland Mark Brzezinski and President & Managing Director Warner Bros. Discovery Poland Kasia Kieli on Wednesday (October 5) took part in a panel titled: "Rapid mobilization of Polish society after Feb. 24th: An example of democratic resilience". The event was part of the Warsaw Security Forum 2022 conference held in the Polish capital city.
Ambassador Brzezinski praised Polish society's reaction to the refugee crisis caused by Russian invasion into Ukraine and likened it to the mobilisation of American citizens after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. "And it's happened in Poland before: it happened during the Warsaw Uprising, during World War Two. It happened in the "Solidarity" era" - he said.
"And now it happened in 2022 with millions of young Poles, especially young people, organising on social media to go to one of the eight border crossings on the Polish-Ukrainian border, to pick up a refugee family," the diplomat said.
Brzezinski also argued that in 20 or 30 years from now, these young people will have become leaders of Poland and the country itself "will be better situated to take on a global role".
Kasia Kieli said that - in her opinion - the role of the media, especially television, was to support the mobilisation of the people in handling the refugee crisis caused by the war in Ukraine, as well as to support humanitarian and other organisations in that effort.
"That was something we were putting a lot of emphasis on - to really support the organisations, or to support those who really know how to handle refugee crises, who know how to work in war zone. Our cooperation with the Polish Humanitarian Action was one of those, because we know they know how to handle that," she said.
The U.S. ambassador also underscored the United States was committed to keeping Poland safe. "We are absolutely in the game in terms of Poland's security. We have now more than 10,000 U.S. troops in Poland - all on Polish bases. We are helping the Poles arm with the most sophisticated military technology that one can find anywhere in the world," he said.
He added his country was ready for any contingency and "absolutely committed to Poland when it comes to indivisible security". "Not just military security, but energy security, the security of democracy and so forth," Brzezinski added.
