U.S. Ambassador to Poland Mark Brzezinski on Friday met with Polish and American soldiers stationed in Podkarpacie region bordering Ukraine. "The United States and Poland stand shoulder to shoulder in this difficult time," he assured in a tweet. In an attached video, Brzezinski also said that "Poland is safe". "We are here to help," he told TVN24 reporter later on.
After visiting a military base in the Podkarpacie region, U.S. Ambassador to Poland Mark Brzezinski posted a tweet in which he said: "This morning I went to the Podkarpackie Voivodeship to personally get acquainted with the situation close to the Polish-Ukrainian border".
The ambassador assured in a tweet that "The United States and Poland stand shoulder to shoulder in this difficult time". In an attached video he said in Polish that "Poland is safe. (...) Poland is secure. (...) America stands shoulder to shoulder with Poland". He thus reiterated his own words from Thursday's interview for TVN24's Katarzyna Kolenda-Zaleska.
He also reassured about it in an interview with our reporter on Friday. "We are ready to protect each and every span of NATO land, which includes Poland".
In another Twitter post, the ambassador said: "This morning I spoke with American soldiers stationed in Poland. I'm proud of their involvement in the common protection of NATO eastern flank in this critical time".
Brzezinski: we are here to help
"We are here to help," Brzezinski told TVN24 reporter, adding that he flew over from Warsaw in a Black Hawk helicopter. "I've never expected that I would have do it in Poland," he admitted.
He informed that a support centre for evacuating U.S. citizens from Ukraine has been opened in Przemyśl, which will also help Polish Border Guard and Polish military. "This place is really close to my heart, as my late father Zbigniew Brzezinski lived here for the first 10 years of his life," he said.
He called the situation in Ukraine "tragic". "It makes me want to cry. This a humanitarian catasrophe. It's a cruel, awful thing," the ambassador said.
Brzezinski assured that the Ukrainians were not alone, this way referring to Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's words from Thursday, when he said in an address that his country "has been left on its own".
Ambassador Mark Brzezinski's visit was confirmed by the 18th Mechanized Division, which said he took part in a briefing on the military situation in Ukraine, led by division chief Gen. Jarosław Gromadziński.
