Polish activist and journalist Sławomir Sierakowski - the initiator of a crowdfunding campaign to purchase a Bayraktar drone for the Ukrainian Army - informed on Thursday (July 28) that the drone producer will donate the device to the Ukrainians free of charge. "The collected money will be spent on humanitarian aid," Sierakowski told TVN24. As a result, thanks to the Baykar company's gesture, Ukraine will receive equipment and financial aid worth nearly 50 million zlotys.
"We would like to express our gratitude to all the Polish people who supported such a meaningful campaign. We were impressed that hundreds of thousands of Polish citizens participated in the campaign you organized. We want to participate in your humanitarian solidarity movement on our side with an offering," Turkish company Baykar said in a letter to Sławomir Sierakowski, who had organised a crowdfunding campaign in Poland to buy a Bayraktar drone for Ukraine.
"In the light of your campaign, we will provide a Bayraktar TB2 to the people of Ukraine so that they can better protect their homeland. And we will oversee the allocation of your funds by Ukrainian charities to ends that ultimately strengthen Ukraine," the company said in the letter.
"Our aspiration is that our offering and this campaign will succeed in saving the lives of innocent Ukrainians in challenging times that we pray to soon end," Baykar underscored.
The information about Baykar donating the drone to Ukraine for free was presented by Sierakowski himself. After he had published the letter from Baykar on Facebook, he told TVN24 that the money collected in the fundraiser would be spent in full on humanitarian aid for Ukraine.
"Therefore, we should state it clearly that Ukrainian men and women will receive aid worth nearly 50 million zlotys," the journalist told TVN24 with joy.
Polish fundraiser to buy a Bayraktar drone for the Ukrainian Army reached its goal on Monday (July 25), when the required sum of 22.5 million zlotys was collected. "Our servers went down five times today, we've received a ton of messages that more people wanted to join the fundraiser," Sierakowski told TVN24 at the time.
As of Thursday 10 a.m., the fundraiser counter showed more than 24.3 million zlotys.
