Academic lecturer and legendary TV, film and radio voice-over artist Tomasz Knapik has died at the age of 77. His son, TVN journalist and our dear colleague Maciej Knapik, informed about his father's passing on Monday.
"I wanted to inform You that my Dad, Tomasz Knapik, passed away today. As some of You know, in the last two months he was struggling with a severe health crisis. We all hoped he would overcome. Regrettably" - Tomasz Knapik's son and TVN journalist, Maciej Knapik, wrote in a Facebook post.
"He was a Voice in our homes, a scientist and lecturer at Warsaw University of Technology. A Beloved Father and Grandfather. He would turn 78 next Thursday," he mentioned. "He passed away in sleep, in the morning. He has joined my Mom," he wrote, adding that he would soon provide details regarding the funeral.
Tomasz Knapik was born on September 16, 1943, in Warsaw. He held a doctorate in electrical engineering and was a lecturer at the Warsaw University of Technology Faculty of Transport.
He began his voice-over career already before finishing high school at Rozgłośnia Harcerska. Then he worked at Polish Radio and Polish Television. During his work in the latter, he used to read translations of foreign films live. At the end of the 1980s, he began his long-lasting cooperation with the Polish Film Chronicle, which ended with the dissolution of this institution.
Tomasz Knapik also worked for Polsat, Polonia 1, TVN Turbo and Tele 5.
He was a permanent reader for Polish film distributors such as: Imperial, Vision, Best Film, NVC VIM, ITI Home Video, Artvision and many more.
His voice was used in many cinema blockbusters, including: "American Ninja", "Doctor Zhivago", "12 Angry Men", "Star Wars" movies, "Rambo III", "Basic Instinct", "Total Recall", "The Terminator", and "Jaws" series.
Tomasz Knapik's voice could also be heard in popular TV shows such as: "Benny Hill", "L.A. Heat", "Poirot", "Texas Ranger", "Tropical Heat", "Married... with Children", "La Femme Nikita".
