Polish president said on Tuesday (November 8 ) the consequence of Russia's aggression put at risk the implementation of climate transition.
Speaking at the COP27 U.N. climate summit, Andrzej Duda said the energy crisis and huge costs of living - being a consequence of Russia's aggression on against Ukraine - were hampering the timely attainment of the intended goals.
"It has also generated additional emissions exceeding the level of those produced by a number of developing countries within the scope of one year," he added.
"We must strive to ensure that the Russian aggression is promptly and permanently repealed by increasing support for Ukraine and enhancing pressure on Russia, and stepping up our efforts to become independent of Russian fossil fuels," Duda said.
"Let us not be climate hypocrites. Since it's easy for the leaders of the rich north to boast with their achievements. The world, however, has the right to ask where we have moved our production. For if we have moved it into non-European countries, then we should not forget that our responsibility has not disappeared," Polish president stressed.
World leaders, policymakers and delegates from nearly 200 countries are at the COP27 U.N. climate summit in Egypt, where they hope to keep alive a goal to avert the worst impacts of climate change.
The summit kicked off on Sunday (November 6) with an agreement to discuss compensating poor nations for mounting damage linked to global warming, placing the controversial topic on the agenda for the first time since climate talks began decades ago.
