Polish diplomats have been expelled from Russia - TVN24 learned on Friday at Poland's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The diplomats have 5 days to leave Russia. Earlier on Friday, Poland's Ambassador in Moscow was summoned to the Russian MFA.
45 Polish diplomats are to leave the territory of Russia in the next 5 days, until April 13. Poland's foreign ministry spokesperson Łukasz Jasina has confirmed this information to a TVN24 reporter.
Earlier on Friday, Poland's Ambassador to Russia, Krzysztof Krajewski, was summoned by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jasina told Polish Press Agency.
The spokesperson also said he would provide more information later on.
Poland expelled 45 Russian diplomats on March 23. "In coordination with our allies, Poland has decided to very significantly reduce the number of diplomatic staff of the Russian Federation's Embassy," Łukasz Jasina said at the time. The move came at a request by Poland's Internal Security Agency (ABW).
Jasina also explained at the time that the move had been motivated illegal activity carried out by employees of the Russian embassy, which had also violated the Vienna Convention.
"The officers of the Russian secret services who use their diplomatic status to carry out intelligence activities violate the Polish law and the 1961 Vienna Convention," Spokesman for Poland’s Minister-Special Services Coordinator said in a statement.
Polish MFA had then summoned the Russian Ambassador Sergey Andreev, who rejected the accusations against the embassy staff and announced that Russia could retaliate.
