A visit by President Andrzej Duda to the White House is being planned for the second half of September, and that the official announcement from the American side would be made "within days", presidential aide Andrzej Dera said on Monday.
"The president will be in the US in the second half of September, when a meeting of the UN Security Council is held. A visit to the White House is planned, but the rule is that since the invitation has been made by the US side, they will announce the date of the visit. Therefore, we are anxiously awaiting the White House announcement," said Dera on public television on Monday.
Asked when the news could be expected, Dera replied that it would be announced "within days".
As he said, the plan for the Polish president's visit, which will include a visit to the White House, is ready. "The rule is that the side which makes the invitation, makes the announcement, and then we'll have one hundred percent confirmation," he said.
When asked about a possible visit of the American president to Poland, Dera replied "looking at things realistically, the President of the United States has been to Poland, the President of Poland will, I hope, be in the United States, and that will lead to a meeting, so it’s hard to imagine that within one and a half months after this meeting, the President of the United States will visit again," the presidential aide said.
Donald Trump and his wife Melania visited Poland at the beginning of July last year.
