A resident of Grudziądz, a city in central Poland, found a large sum of money on the sidewalk and, without a moment of hesitation, she took it to a police station. She also refused to accept a reward from the rightful owner of the cash. For her exemplary conduct, the woman received flowers and a congratulatory letter from the police.
The woman from Grudziądz, whose name is Małgorzata, found the large sum of money on March 1. She immediately decided to take the cash to a police station.
"There was an ATM withdrawal receipt attached to the money. In the meantime, it turned out that an elderly man notified the police that he had lost the cash," said Łukasz Kowalczyk, press officer of Grudziądz City Police.
Refused a reward
Thanks to the woman, the owner got all his money back. He offered her a finder's reward, but she refused to accept it.
"She said that it all wasn't her intention. She simply wanted the person who had lost the money to get it back," the police officer added.
Deputies of Grudziądz Police Chief Commander thanked the woman for her exemplary civil conduct. They said her conduct was impeccable and admirable. "Such a conduct is not an everyday occurence these days, and therefore we felt even more inclined to reward it with flowers and a congratulatory letter," officer Kowalczyk underscored.
