Polish prosecutors have examined three rulings by a Belgian court regarding custody over 10-year-old Ibrahim. The analysis of the documents showed the boy's father should neither be held accountable for parental abduction of the child, nor for abduction attempt last year.
According to the documents, the Moroccan citizen living in Belgium did not abduct his son on Sunday, as he had been granted custodial rights by a Belgian court.
The situation has been settled with a verdict passed in October of 2018. A family court granted custodial rights to both parents, but Ibrahim was to remain in Belgium with his father.
"The court has set the place of permanent residence at the father's place. The question of contact with the parents has also been regulated. According to the verdict document, the mother was not present in the court when the ruling was made" - said the spokesperson for the District Prosecutor's Office in Gdańsk Grażyna Wawryniuk.
The analysis of the documents showed the boy's father should neither be held accountable for parental abduction of the child, nor for abduction attempt last year.
The prosecutor's may, however, look into the Moroccan's attack on the boy's mother. He is said to have hit the woman in the head, when taking the boy away from her on Sunday.
The investigation into the case has been launched by the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Gdynia.
Ten-year-old Ibrahim was taken away from his mother on Sunday evening in Gdynia. The family notified the police shortly after the incident. The Child Alert procedure was initiated on Monday morning only to be called off on Tuesday when it turned out the was safe and sound with his father in Belgium.
