A deer fleeing from hunters has seriously injured one of them. It trampled over a 36-year-old man who stood in its way. The incident has been recorded with the hunter's headcam.
"Such situations are very rare. Deer aren't aggressive and always run away when they see people. In this case, the animal most likely saw me in the last moment and it failed to go around me," said Leszek Kamiński from Warsaw's hunting club "Pogoń", author of a well-known hunting blog polunek.pl.
It was Sunday, December 19, when a fleeing deer ran straight into him during the hunt. The situation was recorded on the camera he had attached to his head.
Eyesocket spiked with antlers
"I heard a voice in the radio saying that "heavy" deer were approaching in my direction. It happened in fractures of a second. When I saw the young deer, I took a step left. I'm not sure if saved my life, or only scared the deer and made it trample over me. All in all, I think it was a blessing in disguise," Kamiński said.
Although the animal spiked the man's eyesocket with antlers, fractured his skull, and affected his meninges, it did not cause any damage to his eyeball - neither to the nerves, nor the eye muscles.
"When I open my eyes, I have double vision. I'm supposed to have another surgery which is to solve this problem," the hunter said.
The man has been placed in a hospital.
