Doctor, paramedics and nurses will work on a rotating basis. The process of completing necessary equipment has been almost finished. A field hospital for refugees from Ukraine will soon be open near the border station in Dorohusk (Lubelskie Voivodeship). The temporary hospital will be set up inside a special heated tent, and all thanks to a grassroots initiative coordinated by Podlasie Angels Foundation (Fundacja Podlascy Aniołowie).
"The hospital was set up in three hours. It was possible thanks to you, forthe money we've collected at the foundation's subaccount dedicated to helping Ukraine," chief of the Podlasie Angels Foundation Stefan Sochoń said in a video published on Facebook.
The video was posted on Sunday (March 6) at 3:30 a.m. It shows a tent set up next to the border corssing in Dorohusk. Apart from the Podlasie Angels, the field hospital could have been organised also thanks to a Podlasie branch of Porozumienie Zielonogórskie association, as well as MedFire company.
Medicines, medical equipment, heaters
"Porozumienie Zielonogórskie, among other things, helped to find medics from all over Poland who have agreed to do work shifts here as volunteers. It also took care of all the necessary paperwork. MedFire company has provided a fully equipped ambulance and paramedics. We, in turn, have focused on delivering medicines, medical equipment, and heaters - thanks to which it will be warm inside. We are still collecting funds on our subaccount. We encourage everyonw to support our cause," Stefan Sochoń told tvn24.pl.
If everything goes according to the plan, the hospital should start admitting patients already on Monday evening (March 7).
They helped a woman who fled to Poland three hours after having a C-section
"We're only waiting for a few last equipment elements and we will open the hospital. The refugees are usually very cold. We have cases of frostbite too. Sometimes we also have patients in more severe condition - with acute coronary syndrome or stroke," said a paramedic from MedFire company.
He added that they had helped a woman who had crossed the Polish border just three hours after having a C-section back in Ukraine.
15 doctors, 35 paramedics and 20 nurses
"We've taken care of a three-year-old girl who lost a hand in a bomb explosion, I believe it happened in Kharkiv. I think that once the ambulatory care has been opened at the field hospital, we will be able to do even more. We have 15 doctors, 35 paramedics, and 20 nurses. They will work here as volunteers on a rotating basis," the paramedic said.
A nurse who was with him said the medics had tended to a baby which had been brought in an incubator.
"At the moment we're waiting for a patient with chronic renal failure, whom we shall refer to a dialysis station," she said.
