Poland's southeastern city of Rzeszów will earmark 650,000 zlotys to finance in vitro fertilisation (IVF) programme for residents. This should be enough to support at least 40 couples struggling with infertility, but who are eager to have a baby.
"There already are local governments in Poland that offer such possibility to residents, and I'm proud that Rzeszów has joined this group," said Rzeszów Mayor Konrad Fijołek.
A month after the local government announced it would finance the city's own in vitro programme, the city has picked a clinic that will help Rzeszów residents to treat infertility with the use of IVF. Three clinics submitted their bids, but Rzeszów's Parens Infertility Treatment Centre has won.
The programme is to be carried out starting January 9 until the end of 2025. Residents of Rzeszów - couples struggling with infertility - are entitled to take part, however the age limit for women has been set at 20-40.
Residents also chose in vitro
The in vitro financing programme has also won additional 50,000 zlotys from Rzeszów's Particiaptory Budget. The project was submitted by the New Left party co-chairperson, Patrycja Pawlak-Kamińska.
As a result, a total of 650,000 zlotys has been secured to finance the IFV programme in Rzeszów. This should be enough to help at least 40 couples who want to have a baby very much, but struggle with infertility.
