We are observing a slowdown in the new infections increase dynamics. It indicates we are getting closer to the apogee of the next COVID-19 wave - Poland's Health Minister Adam Niedzielski said at a press briefing on Thursday (July 28). He added that the summer wave was likely to reach its peak in the second half of August, when the average number of daily infections might be at 10,000 cases daily.
Minister Niedzielski said at a press conference in Puławy that "when it comes to the number of infections then practically in the last four weeks, ... week on week we had increases by more than 60%. There even was a week when ... infections increase was 80%".
"This week we had seen a barrier of 5,000 new cases being broken, it happened on Monday," Niedzielski added.
"We are observing one positive development - a week on week slowdown in the new cases increase dynamics. Today's number of 3,500 new cases is actually a 17-18% increase compared to the previous week," he informed.
He added that according to the latest forecasts, in the second half of August there would be approx. 10,000 daily infection cases in Poland. It is also possible the peak of summer wave will happen in the first half of August - in that case the number of daily infections would be slightly lower - approx. 7,000-8,000.
