In a video posted on Law and Justice's official TikTok profile, MP Radosław Fogiel said that young people "don't know anything" about the ruling party and its policies, and that their "hate has been shaped" by song lyrics. "What do you actually hate PiS for?" - he asked, sparking thousands of replies, most of them negative. Government spokesman Piotr Müller said on Monday that, possibly, some of the comments would be "a certain lesson in humility" for the ruling camp.
A video beginning with a fragment of young generation rapper Mata's concert was published on Saturday (March 18) at the Law and Justice official TikTok profile. Thousands are shown chanting explitic lyrics of a song critical of TVP (Poland's state-run public TV) and its chairman Jacek Kurski. Although the lyrics do not mention the ruling party itself, but rather the pro-government broadcaster, PiS MP Radosław Fogiel asked the following question on TikTok: "What do you actually hate PiS for?".
"Do you even know anything about Law and Justice? Your hate has been shaped by the lyrics of Cypis and Mata. You don't know anything about our programs, our policies, and what we have managed to do in those eight years," Fogiel accused the youth. He also encouraged users to share their opinions: "I'd be happy to listen, the specifics, in the comments: what do you actually hate PiS for?".
More than 7,500 comments have been posted by Monday afternoon. An overwhelming majority of them were negative. "Politicized court and TK (Constitutional Tribunal - edit.) turning TVP into a propaganda machine, appalling approach to education, restriciting reproductive rights etc." - we read. "Inflation, no separation of the Church and state, minister Czarnek's reforms," one user wrote.
Müller: maybe some comments will be a lesson in humility for us
Government spokesman Piotr Müller was asked about the critical comments regarding the ruling party. "We are aware that we sometimes make mistakes as government. It's only natural when you're in power, when you do something you can always make mistakes, it's inevitable. We are drawing conclusions," he assured.
"Deputy Fogiel sparked a wave of comments. Maybe some of them will be a certain lesson in humility for us," he added.
He also stressed that "politics is not only about being praised". "It's also about hearing remarks, often very critical. There will plenty of that in the election campaign so there's no need for pother over it. We have to take it on the chin and respond to criticism," Müller said.
