Poland's former prime minister Donald Tusk met face to face with Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski - TVN24 reporter learned on Friday. The two met also on Thursday, but were accompanied by Civic Platform chief Borys Budka. Party lawmaker Robert Kropiwnicki said Saturday's party convention would be the "culmination of the talks".
Rumours regarding Donald Tusk's potential return to Polish politics have intensified in recent weeks. Media have been speculating whether the former prime minister will re-join Civic Platform, party he co-founded. The party National Council is to meet at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Tusk is likely to take part and possibly announce his plans.
Chairman of Civic Platform Borys Budka, his deputy and Mayor of Warsaw Rafał Trzaskowski and Donald Tusk met on Thursday. The meeting ended late in the evening. Budka told TVN24 reporter that "everything is going in the right direction". On Friday morning - the reported learned - Trzaskowski and Tusk met face to face.
Civic Platform presidium meeting was planned to take place on Friday afternoon.
"The talks are being held in various formats, two people, three people, we're in a moment when we all need to talk with one another in order to achieve as much as possible. I think it's going well, that we're close to an agreement, and that we'll be able to announce it during Saturday's National Council" - Civic Platform MP Robert Kropiwnicki told reporters. He added the talks would "culminate at tomorrow's National Council". "I think the outcome will be good for Civic Platform, Civic Coalition and the whole opposition" - he said.
He reassured that there was no conflict within the party. "It's more of a rivalry, a certain dispute over ideas for functioning of the party, but an even better ideas for the future will emerge from it. We're able to reach a compromise and present a consolidated Platform" - he said.
