Ukrainian experts were granted access on Friday (November 18) to the deadly missile blast site in the Polish village of Przewodów. They were escorted to the scene by the police. "I am grateful to the Polish side for granting them access. We will continue our cooperation in an open and constructive manner, as closest friends do," Ukraine's Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba said in a tweet.
Ukrainian experts arrived in Przewodów on Friday shortly before noon. A passenger van with blue diplomatic corps plates arrived first. One of the passengers was wearing a black field jacket with an Ukrainian flag and emblems. The Ukrainians were escorted by the police to the warehouses, which had been hit by a missile on Tuesday.
Shortly after more cars with diplomatic corps plates arrived at the site, carrying another group of people in field uniforms.
After three hours spent in Przewodów, the motorcade with Ukrainian experts returned along the same road.
"Ukrainian experts are already working at the site of the tragedy in Przewodów caused by Russian missile terror against Ukraine. I am grateful to the Polish side for granting them access. We will continue our cooperation in an open and constructive manner, as closest friends do," Ukraine's Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba said on Twitter.
Poland's Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Mariusz Błaszczak said on Friday that granting Ukrainian investigators access to the site in Przewodów and question of their participation in the inquiry into the incident were "very clearly specified" in international law. "The Ukrainian side has officially asked Poland to be allowed to participate in these procedures. It's been approved, but relevant provisions must be observed as the investigation is ongoing," he added.
Błaszczak said that the Ukrainian experst would would be allowed to inspect the site. "However, we must stick to the procedures, as it is extremely important for the inquiry," he added.
Asked how many missiles had struck onto the Polish territory, the minister replied that "this will also be determined by the investigators".
On Tuesday (November 15) Russian armed forces carried out a widespread missile attack on Ukraine, targeting mainly energy infrastructure. That same day, a missile hit the village of Przewodów in eastern Poland, killing two Polish citizens.
