Local government representatives from the Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland on Wednesday met with the Mayor of Lviv Andriy Sadovyi and his associates. Polish delegation and Lviv authorities discussed ways in which Pomerania could help Ukraine, including offering hospital space in Pomeranian hospitals for the wounded, as well as providing medical equipment for Lviv hospital.
The Pomeranian Voivodeship Marshal's Office informed that local government officials had met on Wednesday with their counterparts from Lviv. The Polish delegation included Gdańsk Mayor Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, Gdynia Mayor Wojciech Szczurek, Sopot Mayor Jacek Karnowski, Deputy Marshal of Pomeranian Voivodeship Leszek Bonna, and MP Paweł Kowal. The Ukrainian side was represented by Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi and his associates.
The mayor of Gdańsk informed that the city donated to city buses to Lviv local government. Aleksandra Dulkiewicz also handed Lviv mayor an appeal from 200 local governors, including some from non-European cities, to the European Commission and central governments of the EU member states. The mayors call for immediate opening of all humanitarian corridors, stopping crime against civilians, and restricting trade and commercial exchange with Russia in terms of energy.
The Pomeranian Voivodeship has provided 50 hospital beds for wounded defenders of Ukraine and sent medical equipment to Lviv. Furthermore, the Polish delegation discussed with Lviv authorities future humanitarian transports which will soon depart for this city as part of the Pomerania Supports Ukraine initiative. This Friday, another four trucks will set off from Gdańsk.
"The main purpose of our working meeting was to agree further details regarding humanitarian aid and organising equipment for hospitals," Gdynia Mayor Wojciech Szczurek said after the meeting in Lviv.
Gdańsk Mayor Aleksandra Dulkiewicz stressed the importance of humanitarian aid, sending indispensible equipment, as well as providing support to refugees. "But we also need to speak in one voice, loud and clear, when it comes to trade ban, because only this way can we influence politicians responsible for making key decisions in the EU," Dulkiewicz said a statement.
