Chairman of the Accord party Jarosław Gowin has declared readiness to join talks on changes in the constitution, proposed by Civic Platform leader Donald Tusk. "We propose concrete provision, which have been drafted already 10 years ago. I will address party leaders, so we could begin a cross-party work on this project," he announced.
Speaking at a party convention on Saturday, Civic Platform leader Donald Tusk addressed PiS chairman Jarosław Kaczyński and proposed a provision be added to the constitution, stating that termination of international agreements require two-thirds of all votes.
Asked to comment on Tusk's words, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki later said that the government was "ready to start substantive discussion on this issue". "We're certainly not saying 'no'. I confirm that this is very much possible," Morawiecki said.
Gowin: we declare our readiness to work on constitutional changes
Chairman of the Accord party Jarosław Gowin commented on Tusk's proposal on Wednesday in the Sejm. "As Accord, we not only declare readiness to join work on such changes in the constitution, but also propose concrete provisions," he said.
"Between 2010-2011, I was chief of the constitutional committee, which, on President Bronisław Komorowski's initiative, prepared a whole chapter for Polish Constitution, regulating relations between our country and the European Union," Gowin added.
He further explained that this chapter also mentioned conditions for exiting the EU. "Exactly the same solutions are mentioned, as those proposed by Donald Tusk. Draft legislation adopted by a majority of at least two-thirds of MPs, at least two-thirds of senators, PM's request sent over to the president, and finally the head-of-state's decision," he explained.
"I will address leaders of all parliamentary parties today, so so we could begin a cross-party work on this project," Accord chairman said.
Strzeżek: we will never see EU flag as rag, and EU as occupant
Party spokesperson Jan Strzeżek stressed that "Jarosław Gowin's Accord has never been, is not, and will never be a political party seeing the blue-and-yellow flag as a rag".
"We will never claim that the European Union is an occupant. None of us had expected that it will be necessary to introduce additional safety measures, that would protect Poland from attempts to make it leave the European community. And we've seen in recent weeks that such ideas - especially on rhetorical level - indeed exist," he added.
