In September this year, teachers will receive pay rises; the average pay for teachers will increase by 9,6 percent - the Sejm decided by approving amendments to the so-called Teachers Charter bill. The changes include bonuses for trainee teachers, sets up minimal bonus for educators and shortens the path to promotion.
In favour of passing the amendment were 420 MPs, 11 were against and 2 abstained.
The draft was submitted in the Sejm last week by Law and Justice MPs. It's a result of the agreement reached on April 7, between the government and education section of Solidarity trade union.
In the course of negotiations with the teachers unions at the Centre for Social Partnership "Dialog", the government proposed: nearly 15-percent pay rise for teachers (9,6 percent in September plus 5-percent rise already paid out from January), shorter training period, fixed bonus for educators, no less than 300 zlotys, change in the system of teachers' evaluation and less bureaucracy. The government signed the said agreement only with the Solidarity trade union. Trade Unions' Forum and Polish Teachers' Union rejected the government's deal.
The updated Teachers' Charter will now be sent to the Senate and then, if passed, to the president.
