Speaking on Thursday in Warsaw, U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed a strong alliance with Poland, stating that both countries have never been so close. He spoke of the commitment of the United States to peace in Central and Eastern Europe. U.S. President Donald Trump said also that he was working with Poland on addressing threats from Russia and reiterated his calls for NATO members to meet their financial obligations.
Trump told a joint news conference with Polish President Andrzej Duda on Thursday that it was "past time" for all countries in the alliance to "get going" on their financial obligations.
Trump pointed out that the United States was committed to “maintaining peace and security in Central and Eastern Europe.”
While he did not directly mention that principle in Warsaw, he did say that the United States was working with Poland to address Russia's "destabilising behaviour". Duda for his part said he believed Trump took Poland's security seriously.
Trump also expressed satisfaction with Poland's active role in the fight against terrorism and thanked for the “friendly” reception of U.S. troops stationed in Poland.
Trump also said that Poland became a non-permanent member of the Security Council “at a crucial moment”.
The President of the United States also thanked the Polish Americans for their support in the recent elections. Trump stressed that the visit to Poland was a “real honor” for him, and that Poland was “one of the most spectacular places.”
Speaking in Warsaw, Trump also said he hoped many more shipments of natural gas would be coming to Poland from the United States, on top of a recent delivery. Trump said the United States strongly backed their Three Seas initiative.
