Prince William and Princess Kate begin their visit to Poland on Monday. In the early afternoon they will land in Warsaw and visit the Pomerania region on Tuesday. Then they will return to the capital, to depart for Berlin on Wednesday morning. “This is a visit of friendship and respect. An expression of good Polish-British relations,” Krzysztof Szczerski, President's Chief of Staff, said about the arrival of the royal couple.
This will be their first visit to Poland. And it will also be the first visit of their children to a country that did not belong to the British Empire. William, Kate, their four-year-old son George and their two-year-old daughter Charlotte will stay in the Belweder Palace.
Krzysztof Łapiński, Secretary of State in the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland, said that the visit of the royal couple was not political. “There will be no political speeches. Rather, it is a demonstration of good relations between the two states,” he said. “Poles will be able to meet the royal couple during their stroll along Krakowskie Przedmieście Royal Avenue,” added Szczerski.
Busy schedule
William and Kate are expected to arrive in Warsaw early in the afternoon. They will then be entertained by the presidential couple, Andrzej Duda and Agata Kornhauser-Duda, at the Presidential Palace. After a stroll down Krakowskie Przedmieście Royal Avenue they will visit the Warsaw Rising Museum and meet young entrepreneurs in the Warsaw Spire complex.
They will end their day with a banquet at the Łazienki park, dedicated to the Queen of the United Kingdom. Prince William will deliver a speech, which will be his only public appearance in Poland.
William and Kate will spend the second day of their Polish visit in Pomerania. First, they will visit the former Nazi German Stutthof concentration camp in Sztutowo, where they will pay homage to the victims of Nazism, and then, in Gdańsk, they will visit the Shakespeare Theatre and the European Solidarity Centre. They will also lay wreaths at the Monument to the fallen Shipyard Workers, commemorating the heroism of the Polish Solidarity movement. During their stay in Gdańsk, they are to meet Lech Wałęsa.
Their visit will end on Wednesday with a private meeting with the presidential couple in the Belweder Palace. Soon afterwards, Kate and William will depart for Berlin.
Prince William is second in line of succession to the British throne, after his father Charles. George and Charlotte are third and fourth, respectively.
