EU Commission approves Poland's National Recovery Plan

The European Commission has approved Poland's National Recovery Plan, TVN24 correspondent in Brussels Maciej Sokołowski informed on Wednesday. Two commissioners were against the decision. The EU Commission issued a statement announcing the approval of the recovery plan later on Wednesday, listing a number of milestones that Poland needs to fulfill before any funds can be disbursed.

General Maczek's original uniform added to Polish History Museum collection

Inflation in Poland in May 2022 was at 13.9% year on year, government agency Statistics Poland said in a flash estimate released on Tuesday (May 31). This is the highest increase since March 1998. Economists surveyed by Polish Press Agency expected consumer prices increase at 13.8% year on year. Inflation in April 2022 was 12.4%.

Defence minister in Seoul: Poland wants modern military equipment from South Korea

Three falcon fledglings from Palace of Culture named and ringed

A pair of falcons from downtown Warsaw - Franek and Giga - have recently extended their family by three lovely fledglings. The little falcons - Aria, Iga and Varso - were born at the end of April. They hatched in a family nest located above the viewing terrace at the Palace of Culture and Science, the iconic communist-era skyscraper. The chicks have just been ringed and were very happy to be photographed during this simple procedure.

Series of tragic accidents in the Tatra Mountains

Von der Leyen: EU Commission won't approve Polish recovery plan unless all requirements are met

The European Commission will not approve any recovery plan unless it is certain that all criteria have been met - EU executive chief Ursula von der Leyen wrote in her response to a letter from a number of European Parliament groups, which had reacted to rumours regarding a potential agreement between the Commission and the Polish government on the National Recovery Plan. Flash estimate: Poland's GDP grew 8.5% in Q1 compared to 2021

4-year-old Auschwitz victim's personal data found in a children's shoe

Curators at the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum have discovered personal data of a 4-year-old Věra Vohryzková, a Czech Jewish girl who in 1943 was sent to the concentration camp along with her mother and younger brother. The information was found written inside one of the children's shoes, which are part of the museum collection. This is yet another such find. In 2020, Amos Steinberg's shoe and a suitcase that belonged to his father, Ludvik, were identified.
