Foreign ministers of Weimar Triangle, Italy, Ukraine to meet in Warsaw on Nov. 19

Foreign ministers of Poland, Germany, France, and possibly also foreign ministers of Italy and Ukraine, are to meet in Warsaw next Tuesday, November 19 - PAP learned from Poland's Foreign Ministry. The discussions are expected to focus on the international situation following the recent U.S. elections and the question of continued support for Ukraine.

Tusk: Speaker Hołownia's decision to run should be met with respect

Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Thursday that the ruling coalition will follow a principle of friendly competition in the presidential race, free from hostility or disrespect. He also emphasized that the decision by the Speaker of the Sejm, Szymon Hołownia, leader of Poland 2050, to run for president should be received with full respect. Hołownia declared he has no intention of stepping down from his role as Speaker while he campaigns for the presidency.

Fatal accident suspect Łukasz Ż. in custody in Poland

Łukasz Ż. was handed over Thursday morning (November 14) to Polish authorities at the Polish-German border. The man is suspected of causing a fatal accident on Trasa Łazienkowska in Warsaw in September. He is scheduled to be questioned by the prosecutor's office.

Poles celebrated Independence Day in a whole variety of ways

November 11 marked the 106th anniversary of Poland regaining its independence. Celebrations began early, with cities across the country organizing commemorative events. In Wrocław, festivities started as early as Saturday, with one of the events involving residents cleaning up their neighborhood. In Rzeszów on Monday morning, a balloon raised a red flag high into the sky. In Katowice, the national anthem was sung at a stadium, while in Kraków, it was played from the tower of St. Mary’s Church. Parades marched through Gdańsk and other cities.

Two major marches went through Warsaw on Independence Day

The annual Independence March, organized by the nationalist Independence March Association since 2011, passed through Warsaw under the slogan "The Power of Great Poland is Us." Politicians from Law and Justice (PiS) and Confederation took part in the event. According to the police, the march proceeded peacefully overall, though authorities seized a large number of pyrotechnic materials, which were prohibited this year. Counter-protests also took place, such as "For Our Freedom and Yours!" and "Anti-Fascism Without Borders," organized by the Anti-Fascist Coalition.

Officials ban use of pyrotechnics on November 11

The Mazovian Voivode signed an ordinance on Friday (November 8) "banning the carrying, transporting, and use of pyrotechnic products in the area of Warsaw on November 11." As stated, the ban is related to ensuring the safety of participants in the Independence Day celebrations, which will be accompanied by many sports, cultural, and state events.
