Robert Lewandowski to miss Euro 2024 qualifiers due to injury

Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski suffered an ankle sprain in their Champions League clash at Porto and will be out of action with no timeline for his return, the club said on Thursday. Poland's skipper will therefore miss the two upcoming Euro 2024 qualifying games against Faroe Islands and Moldova.

Election poll for "Fakty" TVN and TVN24: opposition with parliamentary majority

According to the latest voter sentiment poll carried out by Kantar for "Fakty" TVN and TVN24, the ruling Law and Justice party (PiS) enjoys the highest support with 34%, which would translate in 188 seats in the Sejm. However, three opposition parties which took the next best three results in the poll - Civic Coalition (KO), New Left, and Third Way - would win 244 seats combined, a parliamentary majority. The distance between PiS and Civic Coalition has decreased compared to the September poll. New Left has noted the highest increase in support of all parties.

NBP: interest rates further down by 25 basis points

Poland's Monetary Policy Council (MPC) has decided to decrease the NBP interest rates by 25 basis points - the Council said in a statement on Wednesday (Oct. 4). The main reference interest rate has been therefore reduced to 5.75%.

Polish History Museum opens new seat at Warsaw Citadel

The new seat of the Polish History Museum (PHM) has been officially opened at the Warsaw Citadel. From Friday on, visitors will be able to see a temporary exhibition titled "Big and Small Stories. How the Polish History Museum’s Collection Was Built". The PHM’s permanent exhibition is under construction and will be available three years from now.

Court bans Poland's justice minister from speaking about Agnieszka Holland and her work

Poland's Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro must not compare film director Agnieszka Holland or her work to authoritarian regimes, a Warsaw court said on Tuesday (Sept. 26), after the minister likened Holland's film depicting the Belarus border migrant crisis to Nazi propaganda. Minister Ziobro said at a press briefing later that day he would appeal against the court ruling, calling it "an attack on freedom of speech and freedom of public debate in Poland".

"I know absolutely nothing about this case". OSCE mission not let inside PiS rally

The OSCE observation mission to Poland were not allowed to enter a ruling PiS party rally in Szczecin on Saturday. Member of the ruling camp would not comment on this situation and claim they "know absolutely nothing about this case". "Not letting in OSCE representatives is truly appalling bacause it suggests to Europe and the free world that PiS wants to hide something," said the Civic Coalition MP Grzegorz Schetyna.

EU Commission demands answers by Oct.3 as Poland downplays visa-for-cash scandal

Poland's government has written to the European Union's Home Affairs Commissioner Ylva Johansson alleging that a cash-for-visas scandal is an exaggerated "media fact" timed to discredit the ruling nationalists in a tough battle for re-election next month. The EU Commission Spokesperson Anitta Hipper said on Friday (Sept.22) it had received the letter but found it "does not sufficiently answer all the questions asked".

President Duda: Poland's grain dispute with Ukraine won't largely impact relations

A dispute between Poland and Ukraine over grain imports will not significantly affect the countries' good bilateral relations, Poland's President Andrzej Duda said on Friday (Sept.22), as he moved to ease tensions over the issue. The president added that "cooperation and supporting Ukraine has a historical dimension to me and I am saying this in all seriousness".
