The Stutthof Museum was the first item on Kate and William's Tuesday itinerary. The royal couple met with former prisoners. The guests also visited a women’s barrack in the former German camp.
The most famous royal couple is spending half a day on the Baltic coast. They began their trip with a visit to the Stutthof Museum in Sztutowo. William and Kate arrived at the site at about 12:30. They came by car, a Jaguar flying the royal family standard. After a short welcome, the royal couple entered the Museum. Accompanied by Museum staff, they toured a women’s barrack, the gas chamber and crematorium for over an hour.
- This is a special visit. This was the first time for Kate and William to see a concentration camp. They requested an intimate tour and time for reflection. This is not the place for welcoming crowds and celebrity photoshoots - said Mariusz Sidorkiewicz, TVN24's reporter covering the royal couple’s visit to Sztutowo.
Kate and William also met five former prisoners of the camp. Among them were two British nationals. At the end of the visit, the Duke and Duchess signed the visitors’ book and departed for Gdańsk.
The visit to the former Stutthof concentration camp is not incidental. The royal family attaches great importance to honoring the victims of Nazism. The Duke mentioned the planned visit to Sztutowo in his Monday speech in Warsaw. He stressed that Stutthof was a reminder of the suffering of Poland’s people and of the Holocaust.
