Ukraine's Zelenskiy hails ties as Poland's Duda vows further support

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy visited neighbouring Poland on Wednesday and thanked the country for its "historic" help, saying it should become a key partner in the vast reconstruction effort needed once Russia's invasion ends. President Andrzej Duda said Poland would supply Kyiv with a total of 14 MiG-29 fighter jets and that he was confident Ukraine would emerge victorious from the conflict.

"There is no doubt that you Mister President, that you Volodymyr, are an absolutely special man who received a mandate from its people to serve as president of Ukraine and accomplished this very exceptional mission," Poland's President Andrzej Duda said and awarded his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskiy with Poland's highest order - the Order of the White Eagle. President Zelenskiy thanked Polish authorities and people for support. "You have not abandoned Ukraine, you have stood shoulder to shoulder with us, and we are grateful for it," he stressed.

"We do hope Sweden will join us very soon". Poland welcomes Finland in NATO

"We welcome Finland in NATO," Poland's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Twitter. "From this moment the Alliance of 31 members is even stronger and more united. We do hope Sweden will join us very soon," the ministry added. Finland formally joined NATO on Tuesday (April 4), with the Finnish flag joining those of the 30 other member states at the headquarters in Brussels.

Polish MFA: Andżelika Borys cleared of false allegations

Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Łukasz Jasina informed on Tuesday (April 4) that chief of the Union of Poles in Belarus Andżelika Borys was "cleared of false allegations". The spokesman called the news "a token of change of Minsk attitude towards Poles in Belarus". Polish MFA also expressed hope that charges against Andrzej Poczobut would be dropped too and the journalist himself released.

Flash estimate: March inflation at 16.2% year on year

Inflation in March 2023 decelerated down to 16.2% year on year, according to a flash estimate released by Statistics Poland on Friday (March 31). Compared to the previous month, consumer prices increased by 1.1%. Compared to the corresponding month last year, inflation in February 2023 was at 18.4%, which was the highest spike since December 1996.

Summit of Bucharest Nine foreign ministers begins in Łódź

Foreign ministers of Bucharest Nine countries arrived in Poland's central city of Łódź to take part in a summit devoted to the security of the Central and Eastern Europe as well as the situation in Ukraine. Meanwhile, France and a group of 45 states participating in the OSCE have invoked a special mechanism to investigate allegations linked to Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

Farmers continue protest in Szczecin despite reaching agreement with government

A so-called green town, set up in Szczecin by Polish farmers in protest against government policies, will remain open and tractors will continue to drive across the city. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on Wednesday evening reached a preliminary agreement with Polish farmers' organizations. The latter, however, declare they will not end their protest until they have seen actual effects of said agreement. EU Agriculture Commissioner Janusz Wojciechowski announced Thursday he would support limits on trading with Ukraine.

President Duda: unless stopped, Russia is ready go to much further

"This Russian war against Ukraine has revealed the true face of Putin’s regime," Poland's President Andrzej Duda said during the 2nd Summit for Democracy organized by U.S. President Joe Biden. In his address, Duda underscored the scale of support offered to Ukraine by Poland. "Poland pledges to continue its support for Ukraine, in order to stop Russian neo-imperialism. We will also continue our support to democratic Belarus," Polish presidenr declared.

Polish crews operating Polish AHS Krab howitzers are taking part in NATO Dynamic Front 23 maneuvres in Denmark. The drills have been organized by the U.S. 56th Artillery Command. TVN24 reporter Artur Molęda watched the practice held in an urban setting. "I'm willing to risk stating that we are the first artillery unit to conduct live-fire tasks in an urban landscape," said Lt Hubert Wyszkowski of the 5th Lubusz Artillery Regiment.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Tuesday issued recommendations for the gradual return to international competitions for Russian and Belarusian athletes as neutrals, with President Thomas Bach saying their participation "works" despite the war in Ukraine. Poland Deputy Foreign Minister Piotr Wawrzyk called the decision a "day of shame" for the Olympic body. "We must not close our eyes to reality. PM Morawiecki: Belarus to face more sanctions over Russian nuclear arms plan

Belarus will certainly face further European sanctions due to a Russian plan to station tactical nuclear weapons in the country, Poland's Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said on Tuesday, as tensions between Warsaw and Minsk hit new highs. Romania and Poland are in talks with the European Commission over export tracing mechanisms for Ukrainian grains to ensure local farmers are not hurt by a flood of cheap imports, Morawiecki announced together with Romania's PM Nicolae Ciuca.
