Poland's President Andrzej Duda on Wednesday (August 2) signed into law the amended bill that would set up a special commission to investigate Russian influence in Poland in 2007-2022. The bill is widely known as "Lex Tusk", as its critics argue it is primarily meant to target opposition ahead of this year's parliamentary election, including Civic Platform leader and former PM Donald Tusk.

Poland will increase the number of troops at its border with Belarus after two helicopters from Belarus violated Poland's airspace on Tuesday, Poland's Ministry of National Defence said in a statement. Belarusian MOD denied that its helicopters had done so.

Ukraine and Poland called in the ambassadors from each other's countries on Tuesday as a dispute escalated after a foreign policy adviser to Poland's president said Kyiv should show more appreciation for Warsaw's support in its war with Russia.

She also stressed that although the constitution guarantees equality to everyone, the Polish government "has forgotten that women have their status guaranteed in this constitution".

Poland and its capital city on Tuesday (August 1) marked the 79th anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising. Official commemorations of the insurgency were held all over Warsaw and in other Polish cities. The tragic insurrection commenced on the 1st of August, 1944, and lasted 63 days until it was crushed by better-equipped German army. To punish Warsaw and the insurgents, the retreating German forces razed approx. 85% of the city to the ground.

The Representative of the United States of America to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, said at a press briefing on Monday (July 31) that "any attacks by the Wagner Group will be seen as an attack by the Russian government". Responding to Fakty TVN reporter Marcin Wrona's question, the ambassador added that the Russian paramilitary organization composed of mercenaries was not operating independently, but rather "at the behest of the Russian government".

The revitalization of Operation Tempest Park in Warsaw's southern district of Mokotów has been completed. The revamped park reflects the historical significance of this place. It tells the story of the reconstruction of Warsaw and has display cases with photographs of the ruined city. The Warsaw Uprising Mound has therefore become a two-story observation platform.

Consumer prices in Poland in July 2023, compared with the corresponding month of the previous year, increased by 10.8% (price index 110.8), and as related to the previous month decreased by 0.2% (price index 99.8) - according to the flash estimate released on Monday (July 31) by Poland's Central Statistical Office (Statistics Poland).

"First Polish pilots will begin practice on Apache helicopters in the beginning of August. Two Polish police officers on duty in Croatia rescued a drowning 29-year-old. On Tuesday (July 18) morning, at the beach in Makarska, the policemen spotted a man in the water. "He was twisting in pain. You could see his left shoulder was in an unnatural position. He just couldn't swim anymore," said Officer Marcin Czyż. A military reconnaissance drone that crashed in southwestern Poland late on Tuesday was being used by U.S. soldiers for a training flight, the Polish defence ministry said on Friday.

Poland's security committee decided in a meeting on Wednesday to move military units to the country's east due to the Wagner Group's presence in Belarus, state-run news agency PAP quoted its secretary as saying on Friday (July 21). Later that day, Russia's President Vladimir Putin accused Poland of having territorial ambitions in the former Soviet Union, and said any aggression against Russia's neighbour and close ally Belarus would be considered an attack on Russia.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal on Thursday condemned a decision by Poland to extend a ban on Ukrainian grain exports to the European Union as an "unfriendly and populist move".

Poland's defence ministry is monitoring the situation on the border with Belarus and is prepared for various scenarios, it said on Thursday, after Belarus said mercenaries from Russia's Wagner Group would take part in military exercises near the border. Poland's Supreme Medical Chamber informed on Wednesday (July 19) it has launched an inquiry to explain all details of the police intervention against a woman who had taken an abortion pill. "We won't stand for violation of patient's right to intimacy, the physician-patient privilege as well as hampering efforts to help the patient," the Chamber said. The Patient Ombudsman and the Commissioner for Human Rights have also launched separate inquiries in order to explain the incident.

Poland will not lift ban on Ukrainian grain imports, the country's Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced at a press conference on Wednesday (July 19). He added, however, that transit of Ukrainian grain through Poland was still possible.

U.S. Ambassador to Poland Mark Brzezinski said in an interview for TVN24 that American soldier "go abroad to protect democracy, freedom of the press, freedom of the media, the rule of law, and human rights". "And on that we don’t budge a milimeter," the ambassador added. Mark Brzezinski also stressed that "never before have American and Polish militaries been as closely connected".

Russia is using grain as ammunition, Polish Agriculture Minister Robert Telus said on Tuesday (July 18) after the collapse of a U.N.-brokered deal that allowed Ukraine to export grain through the Black Sea. According to Poland's Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, Russia's decision to quit the deal "cannot lead to the destabilisation of Polish agricultural markets".

Poland's Minister of Foreign Affairs Zbigniew Rau called Russia's move "an act of economic aggression against the states of the Global South, which are most dependent on the Ukrainian grain".

Core inflation in June 2023 dropped down to 11.1% year on year from 11.5% the previous month - the National Bank of Poland announced on Monday (July 17). In a month to month comparison, core inflation in June decreased from 0.4% in May to 0.3% in June. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) in the same period stood at 11.5% y/y.
