Poland reports five new cases of coronavirus infection. The total number is at 16

Five new cases of coronavirus infection were confirmed in Poland on Monday - one in Kraków, one in Wrocław, and three in Racibórz. Therefore, the total number of confirmed cases went up to 16. "The most important thing is to not leave the place of quarantine" - the Minister of Health Łukasz Szumowski stressed at a press conference in Warsaw.

Coronavirus has reached Poland. The Minister of Health Łukasz Szumowski confirmed the first case on Wednesday. He informed that the patient, resident of Lubusz Voivodeship, was taken to a hospital in Zielona Góra and was in good condition. Due to coronavirus suspicion 68 people have been hospitalised in Poland, and some 500 have been quarantined.

Human Rights Commissioner concerned with prosecutor's actions against judge Tuleya

The Commissioner for Human Rights Adam Bodnar has asked the prosecutor's office for information on actions taken regarding judge Igor Tuleya from the District Court for Warsaw. Investigators want to waive his immunity in order to press charges against him. According to Bodnar, such actions may force other judges to avoid passing verdicts unfavourable for the government.

Norwegian courts administration withdraws justice sector cooperation with Poland

"Norway is concerned about developments regarding the rule of law in Poland. An independent judiciary is a vital component of any well-functioning democracy and is essential for safeguarding fundamental human rights. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also been made aware that the Norwegian Courts Administration has decided to withdraw from its planned cooperation with Poland under the justice programme" - the Norwegian MFA wrote on its website on Thursday. Poland's Ministry of Justice informed on Friday that it received no official statement from Norwegian authorities regarding withdrawal from the justice programme, and expressed concerns regarding the rule of law in Norway.

"Coronavirus in Poland is just a matter of time, but, so far, there has not been a confirmed case in our country" - the Minister of Health Łukasz Szumowski informed on Thursday. PM asks constitutional court to examine legality of Supreme Court resolution

Prime minister Mateusz Morawiecki has yet again asked the Constitutional Tribunal to examine the joint resolution adopted by three chambers of the Supreme Court. This time he wants the high court to check this normative act also for compliance with the Polish constitution, as well as with ratified international agreements, such as the Treaty on the European Union and the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union.

Sejm Speaker invites chief auditor for a meeting on Friday

I treat the independence of the Supreme Audit Office (NIK) as priority and I shall protect it with all legal measures at my disposal - the head of NIK Marian Banaś said on Thursday. The day before, the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau (CBA) entered the seat of NIK and searched flats owned by Banaś. He said the bureau's actions had been "unlawful" and stressed he expected an "immediate meeting with the Speaker of the Sejm Elżbieta Witek". The chief of the Sejm Information Centre Andrzej Grzegrzółka said the Speaker has invited Banaś and the NIK board for a meeting scheduled on Friday at 11:30 am.
