Health ministry: 337 new coronavirus cases, 5 deaths

The Ministry of Health informed on Monday about 337 newly confirmed coronavirus infections and the death of 5 people. Since the start of the pandemic, Poland has reported 43,402 infections, of which 1676 infected people have died so far.

Justice minister Ziobro wants Poland to back out of the Istanbul Convention

Poland's justice minister Zbigniew Ziobro's has vowed to submit a motion aimed at withdrawing his country from the Istanbul Convention, which condemns all forms of violence against women and domestic violence. The minister, who is also the leader of a junior coalition partner party United Poland, has said the convention contains harmful, ideological elements. However, a government official told TVN24 on Saturday that the cabinet had not made any decisions in that regard.

Poland likely to veto EU budget and recovery fund if rule of law condition is attached

Alert: strong wind and hailstorms expected across Poland

The Government Centre for Security (RCB) on Friday issued an alert as strong wind and hailstorms are expected in the following provinces: Masovian, Podlaskie, Warmian-Masurian and Łódź, as well as a number of counties in Kuyavian-Pomeranian, Lower Silesian and Greater Poland.

A court in Oświęcim (Lesser Poland) has delivered a verdict in a trial regarding the 2017 car accident involving a government limousine carrying the then prime minister Beata Szydło. The case has been conditionally discontinued. However, the driver of a fiat seicento which collided with the state limo has to pay compensation to Mrs Szydło and one of the officers from her security detail.

Alert: heavy storms and wind expected across Poland

The Government Centre for Security (RCB) has issued an RCB alert due to expected severe weather conditions. Forecasters from the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) informed that the weather may be very dangerous. Storms and strong wind are expected in the north of the country, while the southern parts are likely to be hit by hailstorms and heavy rain.
