Poland's Prime Minister's Office informed on Tuesday that registration for a third dose of COVID-19 vaccine for people over 50 and healthcare employees would be launched on September 24. The government also reminded that registration for a third vaccine shot for people with immunodeficiencies has been open since September 1.
"Third dose of vaccine. For people 50+ and medics - Pfizer after 6 months from vaccination - registration from 24.09. For people with serious immunodeficiencies - Pfizer of Moderna after 28 days from vaccination - registration from 01.09" - The Chancellery of the Prime Minister of Poland said on Twitter on Tuesday.
The booster would be administered at least 6 months after the second shot. A third dose was already recommended earlier for the immuno-compromised.
Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki informed at a press conference on Tuesday that a Medical Council's recommendation has been adopted, and third doses of COVID-19 vaccines will be available after six months from the second shot. The third booster shot will be available for people over 50 and healthcare employees.
Deputy Health Minister Waldemar Kraska reminded on Tuesday that some patients with immunodeficiencies have been able to receive third shots since September 1.
We want to make third doses available for more groups. They will available for people actively working with patients, that is for healthcare workers, and for people over 50 years of age," the deputy minister said.
He added that Pfizer and Moderna products would be used, that is mRNA vaccines. "Following Medical Council's recommendation, we can administer these products after single-shot vaccines, we can mix these preparations," Kraska informed.
