The royal couple will visit the European Solidarity Centre in Gdańsk and meet Lech Wałęsa. “We had this arranged long ago. Everything seems to be ready to give them a worthy reception in our country,” the former President told TVN24.
The royal couple will arrive in Gdańsk this Tuesday. During their stay, Kate and William are to visit the European Solidarity Centre, among other sights.
It is already known that they will see an exhibition devoted to the history of the Solidarity trade union and the dissident movements that lead to democratic change in Central and Eastern Europe.
During the visit, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will be joined by former President Lech Wałęsa.
“We had this arranged long ago. Everything seems to be ready to give them a worthy reception in our country. I already know what I'm going to talk about, but it takes two to tango,” Lech Wałęsa told TVN24.
After their joint sightseeing tour, the royal couple and Wałęsa will pass through the historic Shipyard Gate to lay a wreath at the Monument to the fallen Shipyard Workers. Soon afterwards, they will depart for Warsaw.
Gdańsk is waiting
The royal couple will begin their coastal journey with a visit to the Stutthof Museum in Sztutowo. They will see the barracks of the concentration camp and meet former prisoners. After a flower-laying ceremony, the couple will depart for Gdańsk, where they are to arrive around 3 pm.
The British guests will see the Artus Court and take a stroll by the Neptune Fountain nearby. This will be their opportunity to sample traditional Polish pierogi and Goldwasser liqueur. They will also watch a craftsman make amber jewellery.
Kate and William will also visit the Shakespeare Theatre, whose patron is the Prince of Wales.
