Security services identify Belarusian general major in border attack footage

At a press briefing on Tuesday, spokesman for Poland's special services minister-coordinator, Stanisław Żaryn, informed that a Belarusian Deputy Chairman of the State Border Committee General Major Roman Podlinev was identified among the people who stormed Polish border on November 16. The United Right coalition still enjoys the highest voter support, but opposition parties grow stronger, according to the latest poll by Kantar conducted for "Fakty" TVN and TVN24. If the election were held soon, the ruling party would win 31% of votes, and a total of six parties would win seats in the parliament.

"Gifts of heart" for children from migrant centre

Volunteers from Families Without Borders group from Poland's Tricity are preparing Christman gifts for children placed in a centre for foreigners near Grudziądz. Although gifts are still coming in, there's already plenty of boxes ready, filled with toys, books, wireless earphones, and many other things which may bring some joy and prove useful to the kids.

Firefighters from Rzeczyca (Lubelskie Voivodeship) were called to a very unsual task. They had to remove a tree which fell on a house. However, it wasn't the wind which caused the willow to fall, but... beavers.

40 years ago - on December 13, 1981 - Poland's communist government led by General Wojciech Jaruzelski imposed martial law on the country's territory. The decision was meant to stifle the "Solidarity" opposition movement which united millions of citizens. The coup carried out by the military junta cost the lives of dozens.

Warsaw hospital asked to release abortions register to authorities

An inspection at Bielański Hospital in Warsaw is to take place in December. Voivedeship obstetrics and gynaecology consultant has asked the facility to provide its register of preganacy terminations, rejected abortion requests, and stillbirths. Health Ministry says the it's "a standard, routine control, not related to any particular medical case".

Monetary Policy Council raises interest rates third time in a row

At December's meeting Poland's Monetary Policy Council (RPP) has decided to increase interest rates for the third time in a row. Inflation in Poland has reached the highest levels in 20 years. Poland's central bank chief Adam Glapiński said at a press conference on Thursday that the last increase of interest rates was "very significant", but added there was "still room for further increases".

Man shoots wild boar in the middle of a residential estate

At Podzamcze residential estate in Wałbrzych (Lower Silesian Voivodeship), a hunter was shooting wild boar in the middle of the day, without prior notice and no safety measures. According to local residents, children could see animals dying in pain. The hunter was hired by the city, but the authorities stress that he "should have taken completely different measures", and promised to inspect its own prodecures. Wałbrzych Mayor has notified the prosecutor's office about the incident.

Council of Europe chief asks Poland how it will ensure Human Rights Convention is observed

In a letter to Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau, Council of Europe Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić has asked how Poland intends to ensure the effective implementation of the European Convention on Human Rights. Poland's Constitutional Tribunal ruled on November 24 that Article 6, paragraph 1 of the Convention, in some instances, was not compatible with the Polish Constitution.

U.S. Ambassador to NATO: we've seen some worrisome intelligence regarding Russia

NATO is prepared to reinforce its eastern flank, should Russia take action in Ukraine - said U.S. Permanent Representative to NATO Julianne Smith in an interview for TVN24 correspondent in Brussels Maciej Sokołowski. She added that "Vladimir Putin does not have a veto over future rounds of enlargement" of the NATO. Ambassador Smith also touched upon Joe Biden's talks with the Russian president, as well as the situation on Poland's border with Belarus.

Businesses in border area with Belarus on the brink of bankruptcy

Business owners from Kuźnica municipality (Podlaskie Voivodeship) ask the state for support. In September, due to the migrant crisis at the Belarus border, a state of emergency was introduced in the area, which lasted for two months. Recently, a ban on entering the area has been imposed by the government. "We want someone to hear us, as we're in a very difficult situation. Our businesses grinded to a halt, we have no source of income," they alarm.

PM Morawiecki's wife cashes in nearly 15 million zlotys for selling land she bought 20 times cheaper from Church

Polish prime minister's wife, Iwona Morawiecka, has earned over 14 million zlotys on selling famous plots of land in Wrocław, which she had bought with her husband in 2002 for 700,000 zlotys - according to a notarial act seen by TVN24 and tvn24.pl. Morawiecka promised two years ago that if the city wanted to construct a road on this plot, she would sell the needed part for a price specified in the deed, taking inflation into account, and donate the received sum to charity. The property was bought for 14.9 million zlotys by a company established 10 months prior to the transaction.
